Former Oregon Ducks Ben Crane (1995-99) and John Ellis (2000-03) are among the 156 golfers competing at this week’s U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.
Crane, who doubles the leader of a boy band in his spare time, is 6-over par after the opening round and trails leader Rory McIlroy by 12 strokes. Ellis fared better, carding a 3-over 74 to remain in the top half of the leaderboard.
The U.S. Open, one of four major championships in professional golf, is widely considered the sport’s toughest test.
