Vitek Picks Up Third Pac-10 All-Academic 1st Team Nod
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – University of Oregon senior outfielder Kaitlin Vitek became the second Duck to receive three Pac-10 All-Academic First-Team honors Thursday in an announcement by the Pacific-10 Conference.
In the 21st year of the honor, the human physiology and psychology double major was tabbed to the 10-person first team thanks to her 3.52 cumulative GPA.
Among other honorable mention picks, junior teammate Samantha Skillingstad claimed her second award.
Oregon has now received at least one first-team accolade each of the last 10 years and 25 overall in the award dating back to 1991.
Vitek joined former Duck Kristi Leiter as a three-peat honoree (2005, ’06, ‘07), while five others have picked up a pair of first- team laurels - Dani Baird (2004, ’05), Alyssa Laux (2002, ’03), Kathy Stahl (1994, ’96), Melissa Lemke Jeppsen (1995, ’98) and Heather Holte (1994, ’97).
To be eligible for the award, players must be returning players that are at least a sophomore academically, maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, and be a starter or played at least half of the team’s competitions.
In past years, the Valencia, Calif., native Vitek also received ESPN Magazine Academic All-Region Second-Team honors as a junior, while only one academic all-region team was recognized this year.
