Last November, the Ducks enjoyed their 12th televised appearance in head coach Jim Moore’s tenure in its Fox Sports-televised 3-1 win at Corvallis. In those matches, UO sports a 6-6 record with other wins coming vs. OSU, 3-1 in 2009, 3-0 in ’08 and 3-1 in ‘06, and vs. WSU, 3-0 in ’08, and 3-0 in ’06.
Looking ahead to mid-August, the Ducks will give a sneak peak of this year’s team in the Green-Yellow and Alumni Exhibitions on Saturday, August 13 and Friday, August 19, with both set to start at 7 pm.
The Ducks then open their season at four-time defending national champion Penn State and vs. returning NCAA Regional advancer and Big Ten runner-up Minnesota in the AVCA Showcase, August 26-27 in State College.
Oregon’s home opener is a week later vs. Seattle on Friday, September 2 at 7 p.m. Its first Pac-12 match follows two weeks later against another NCAA returnee in Arizona, Friday, September 16 at 7 p.m.
In 2011, the Ducks will again sport a fresh-faced squad that features seven newcomers – six frosh and one junior transfer. In contrast, its core of returnees sports three sophomores and five juniors in Moore’s seventh year at the helm.
Top players to watch include junior outside hitter and All-Pac-10 honorable mention Alaina Bergsma and sophomore setter and returning All-Pac-10 Freshman Team honoree Lauren Plum.
This spring, the duo were tabbed to the A2 National Team and have played the past few weeks in China as part of the Bring It Promotions Tour. Updates from the group’s tour are available via the @BIPinChina Twitter account.
Other Duck starters back in 2011 include junior outside hitter and former All-Pac-10 Freshman Team member Katherine Fischer, junior libero Haley Jacob and defensive specialist Kellie Kawasaki and sophomore middle blocker Ariana Williams.
