Little & Omlid Advance to OGA Amateur Round of 16
PORTLAND, Ore. – University of Oregon senior women’s golfers Erica Omlid and Kendra Little easily advanced in Wednesday’s first round of match play in the Oregon Amateur Championship, hosted at the Waverley Country Club.
In the round of 32, Omlid toped Kristin Janinis of Bandon, Ore., 5 and 4, and Little beat Loree McKay of Portland, 6 and 5.
Omlid and Janinis were tied, 2-2, through the first five holes before the Springfield, Ore., native Omlid ended the day with wins on six of the last eight holes (#7, 8, 10-13) and concluded the event with four holes remaining.
Little jumped out to a comfortable early lead by taking holes #1, 2, 5, 7, 8 and 9, before McKay posted her first advantages on the 10th and 11th holes. Little answered with wins on the 12th and 13th holes to end the dual.

The duo entered the match play round after sixth- and ninth-place overall finishes, respectively, the past two days in the two rounds of stroke round qualifying. The top stroke play finisher, Caroline Inglis of Eugene, also won her Wednesday match, 8 and 6 over Rachael Fischer, as did last year’s champion, Monica Vaughn, 2 and 1, over Tess Jennings of Portland.
Looking ahead, Omlid will next face the Reedsport, Ore., native Vaughn Thursday with their first tee time at 10:28 am., and Little opens play vs. Amy Anderson of Bend at 9:56 a.m.
Action will continue each day this week and will be capped by Saturday’s 36-hole championship final.
