Edwards Ends WWGA Am Championship Run in Round of 32
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Junior Ashley Edwards added another impressive summer effort for the Ducks in last week’s Women’s Western Golf Association 111th National Amateur Championship.
At the event on the 6,181-yard, Par 71 Sawgrass Country Club course, Edwards tied for 32nd after the two opening rounds of stroke play (77-75--152) last Monday and Tuesday.
In Wednesday’s round of 64 match play opener, the Oakley, Calif., native followed with a 1 up win over Meredith Swanson, Roanoke, Va. In Thursday’s round of 32, she lost to Madison Pressell of Boca Raton, Fla., 7 and 6.
Two days later, Argentinian 17-year-old Victoria Tanco won the 36-hole event final over Emma Lavy of Fayetteville, Ark., 13 and 12.

Closer to home this week, Edwards will join sophomore Cheyenne Hickle in the USGA Amateur Public Links Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, in Bandon, Ore., June 27-July 2.
The first two stroke play rounds will be held Monday-Tuesday, June 27-28, with match play following.
Edwards earned her invitation after she won the qualifier at the Classic Golf Club at Spanaway, Wash., on June 6, and Hickle earned her bid with her runner-up finish in the event at Langdon Farms in Aurora, Ore., on May 24.
