Hasay, Kesselring, Klech Named District All-Academic

EUGENE, Ore. -- Four members of the Oregon's track and field teams, all of whom will be in competition at next week's NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 track & field/cross country teams, as announced Friday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Three of the four were selected to the all district first teams, meaning they now advance to the national ballot.
The three first team selections were sophomores Jordan Hasay and Anne Kesselring for the women and senior David Klech for the men. Senior Claire Michel was a second team selection for the women.
Hasay, from Arroyo Grande, Calif., holds a 3.96 grade point average in human physiology and has already posted a remarkable sophomore season heading into the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships. In the fall, she won the Pac-10 cross country title and finished second in the national championships. Then indoors, Hasay was NCAA Champion in both the mile (4:33.01) and 3,000 meters (9:13.71) to help Oregon win its second consecutive team title.
Outdoors, she was the Pac-10 champion in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters and has advanced to NCAA Championships in both events. Hasay leads the nation in the 1,500 (4:10.28) and is No. 2 in the 5,000 (15:37.29).
Kesselring, from Nurnberg, Germany, sports an impressive 4.10 grade point average. She leads the nation in the 800 meters in 2011 (2:02.44). Kesselring was third in the 1,500 and fifth in the 800 at the Pac-10 Championships and has qualified for the NCAA outdoor meet in the 800 meters.
At the NCAA Indoor Championships, she came from the back of the pack to finish fourth in the mile in a personal-best 4:34.96. She was part of the Ducks' 1-3-4 finish that wrapped up the 2011 NCAA title. Her time was the fourth-best in school history. She also took the lead leg on Oregon's runner-up distance medley relay team that set a school record in 10:52.90.
Klech, a senior from San Ramon, Calif., who finished sixth in the heptathlon at the NCAA Indoor Championships, holds a 3.96 GPA. His resurgent senior season has also seen him finish as the Pac-10 runner-up in the decathlon, scoring 7,581 points. That was just his second career decathlon. Klech ranks 16th nationally and has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon.
In addition to his performance in the combined events at the conference meet, he also scored in the long jump (third) and 110 meter hurdles (fifth) to help Oregon win its fifth-straight league title. He set a hurdle PR of 13.82 at the Mt. SAC Relays decathlon, the No. 6 time in school history. Indoors, in just his second career heptathlon, he set four event PRs to score 5,831 points and finish sixth at the national meet. The score was the second-highest in UO history.
Michel, from Clackamas, Ore., holds a 3.96 GPA as a double major in romance languages and international studies. She was the 2010 Pac-10 champion in the steeplechase and was the league's runner-up this season. After breaking her own school record for the third time this season at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds (10:02.55), she qualified for her first NCAA Championships in the steeplechase.
