Edwards & Hickle Tee Off in USGA Amateur Pub Links

BANDON, Ore. - University of Oregon junior Ashley Edwards and sophomore Cheyenne Hickle wrapped up play this week in another prestigious summer golf event, the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, hosted at Bandon Dunes.
Edwards advanced to the match play opening round of 64 before she lost 4 and 3 to the top seed, Cheyenne Woods of Phoenix, Ariz.
The All-America senior from Wake Forest went 3 up after the first four holes, thanks to par scores on holes #1, 2 and 4, then added wins on holes #6 (birdie), 8 (par) and 14 (birdie). In comparison, Edwards took holes #7 and 9 with pars on both par-4 holes.
The day before after the second and final round of stroke play, Edwards tied for 63rd overall in the 155-person field (78-81-159), while Hickle followed five strokes back (95th-t, 85-79-164).
On the overall stroke play leaderboard, Woods led the standings by four strokes (72-69-141) in Monday's and Tuesday's qualifying, and was followed by Emilie Burger of Hoschton, Ga. (second, 76-69-145).
The past month, Edwards earned her invitation after she won the qualifier at the Classic Golf Club at Spanaway, Wash., on June 6, and Hickle earned her bid with her runner-up finish in the event at Langdon Farms in Aurora, Ore., on May 24.
Woods and the opening match play winners will continue action this week with the 36-hole final set for Saturday, July 2.
