Oregon vs. Westmont College Quotes
Kelly Graves – Oregon Head Coach
On the first action of the season…
“I was actually quite pleased with how we played today. I like the effort, I like the fact that everybody got in and a lot of people contributed. I thought we set a tone defensively that we can at least build upon, but I like the effort in that regard too.”
On his mentality before his first game with this new team…
“I always feel a little bit jittery before the games inside, but I think as a coach you can’t show that to your team, you have to show confidence and I was confident. I thought we had a good week of practice. The effort is getting better and better, the execution still has a way to go as you saw at times, but we’re improving and as a coach that’s all I can ask is to get the most out of what I have.”
On the progression of the offense…
“I thought we were a little impatient at times. We’ve got to make teams work defensively, we cant just come down and take the first quick shot that we have. We’ve got to extend possessions.”
On freshman guard Lexi Bando…
“She’s earned that starting spot and the time that she’s getting. She’s done a really good job for us.”
Jillian Alleyne – Oregon Forward, Junior
On the goal coming into the first game of the season…
“Tonight, our goal was defense actually, because we need to be a legit defensive team. We were talking. We were early, loud and often on our talking and just communicating with each other.”
On the positives and negatives that can be taken from this game…
“The positives were we were talking and everybody was just on board. We were all on the same page, everyone was making the right rotations and knowing who we had, everyone was just on the same page.”
“As far as negatives, we definitely have a lot more to work on, but I think there were more positives than negatives tonight.”
Lexi Bando – Oregon Guard, Freshman
On if playing at Matthew Knight Arena before helped her confidence…
“It helped being with a new team and it was a new atmosphere playing with Oregon across my chest, not my high school team. It felt awesome.”
On her mindset going into her first collegiate game…
“I was a little nervous going in, you know, my first college game. Knocking down those three’s definitely boosted my confidence and got me pumped up.”
