NCAA Volleyball Eugene Regional - Quotes
Oregon Quotes
Jim Moore – Oregon Head Coach
On the match…
“First, congratulations to Santa Clara. They’re a very good team. They sideout well and their middles gave us fits all night long. They’re a solid team; and we played well enough to get through that.”
On the team’s blocking…
“We stopped looking at the ball and found the hitter tonight. You could just see it--people’s eyes went right to the hitter. It’s easy to block balls when you look at the hitter, but it’s really hard when you’re looking at something that isn’t going to help you. We’ve been stressing that for a long time.”
On Taylor Agost’s increased presence in the rotation…
“She touches 10-5, so it doesn’t hurt. She gets up there and she’s a great athlete. She has a chance at being a phenomenal player. She hits so high, and that’s why we wanted her in there tonight.”
On the team’s performance…
“I think we played really well. I thought we did some good things. Some of it was a matchup issue. I told them beforehand that their middle blockers aren’t going to beat us. I guess they proved I was right because their middles went off, and they didn’t beat us. [Taylor] Milton can beat us, so we just camped on her all night long.”
On preparing to face LSU’s Briana Holman…
“She was in China with us. She may be physically the most gifted kids in the country. I’m not going to say, ‘Let’s leave her alone,’ because she can beat us. So we’re going to have to do a lot better job with the middles tomorrow.”
Martenne Bettendorf – Outside Hitter, Junior
On the team’s mindset before the game…
“Coming in, we just tried to forget about what happened. A big theme that we’ve been practicing is just looking forward and not looking in the past. That’s what we were doing. Obviously, we’ve got a lot of confidence. We’re just happy to get the win and move onto the next.”
On preparing for LSU…
“They’re a really good team. They’re going to be tough. I think we just need to get some rest, get ready, and not worry about things in the past. I also think we need to serve tough. They’re a good team, so we’ll see how it goes.”
Serena Warner – Middle Blocker, Senior
On the team’s blocking…
“It was great and very rewarding. We’ve been working on it all season, and we finally got to see it come to fruition.”
On preparing for LSU…
“We need to be ready to come out with a good mindset, forget the last play, and focus on the one in front of us.”
Santa Clara Quotes
Jon Wallace- Head Coach
Statement…
“In this tournament we get one film and the film was against Oregon State, when Oregon played Oregon State last week. Oregon State played pretty well and I think Oregon was a little off. They are a much different team in this facility and I think their passing was the major difference for them.”
“I’m proud of our girls. It was a great year and it’s great to be here. It’s our twelfth time in my time coaching here and our group is very young, so I think we have a bright future ahead of us.”
Danielle Rottman - Outside Hitter, Junior
On what they take from playing here…
“We are really proud of our season this year and we were actually picked ninth in conference and we ended up third. Obviously we don’t want to loose like we did tonight, but it’s a really great feeling knowing we made it to the tournament this year and the future is looking bright.”
Taylor Milton - Outside Hitter, Senior
On what was going through her head in the game…
“Our side of the net, we were just coming, we prepared really well this past week and I don’t think there were too much jitters. I think we were well balanced in practice and we went out onto the court focused. I just have to say Oregon played an unbelievable match.”
LSU Quotes
Fran Flory- LSU Head Coach
On the match...
“First I want to congradulate Oklahoma on a great year. They are a quality team and their coaching staff is a great coaching staff and when you get to the end it’s always difficult, but I thought they played well and played with a lot of heart just as they always do. I’m super proud of our team. I thought out game plan work to a ‘T’ and thought we did super well. You have some special athletes and this team has a bit of a destiny with it.
“We’ve had a few trials and tribulations, but we’ve overcome them. We are happy that we are moving forward, we know that we have a great challenge ahead of us tomorrow and we look forward to that.”
On things they did well today…
“First off, I think we had great passing and I think we had a great serving game plan and our kids executed it and were pinpoint with their serving. So our passing was great, but not good. It was good enough at some times, but that is what we will have to improve upon.”
Briana Holman- Middle Blocker
On emotions heading into tomorrow…
“We’ve improved so much in every aspect of the game and I think this year we have a drive that we didn’t have last year. We had it last year, but this year it’s much more.”
Katie Lindelow- Outside Hitter
On momentum after the first set…
“I think one problem we have is a little bit of a confidence issue. We make a few errors and as a whole team our entire confidence goes down so that was helpful to start so high up and we were able to keep going and keep that momentum. We were trying to stay steady and we set the bar high and we were able to maintain that throughout he match.”
Oklahoma Quotes
Santiago Restrepo - Oklahoma Head Coach
On LSU...
"I want to congratulate LSU for advancing. They definitely played a great match--very well coached, very well-disciplined team as far as defense is concerned. They put us on our heels the whole time and my hat's off to them and their success."
On the match...
"We were coming from behind every single set. I thought our defense by our lonesome senior, Kaitlyn Drawe, got us a little closer to them and made it a match where anything could happen. Unfortunately, the ball bounced their way."
Marion Hazelwood - Middle Blocker, Freshman
On Oklahoma's performance...
"I think we, as a team, lacked confidence. I just tried to make up for that and not be scared because their offense and defense is really great. I thought that establishing our middles would be important so that our outsides could have an easier time against the block."
"I think it reflects on how we need to work on consistency. We had some really high highs this season, and we had some really low lows. I think it's important to realize that you shouldn't take any team lightly. We didn't have our A game from the get-go, so we were constantly trying to catch up. That's something you can't do in a tournament."
Julia Doyle - Setter, Junior
On the match...
"They just picked up a lot of balls and kept a lot of rallies going. I feel like they didn't make many mistakes and they were just a better team today."
