Quotes: Navy vs. Oregon
Kelly Graves
On the team…
“We play with a lot of heart. We had every opportunity to just lay over and we didn’t. That was a character game. No question. A character game.”
On team leadership…
“Jill showed some leadership tonight by wanting the ball in the second half. She is never going to be the most vocal player but if she can lead by that aggressiveness that helps us. And I think Jordan is starting to step into that role the more comfortable she gets.”
On talking at half time…
“I just challenged them. I can do that pretty aggressively but it had to come from them and that’s what I said. It has nothing to do with the coaches and what we are saying it has to come from them and they did it.”
On Drea’s performance…
“You look at her stats, two assists, no points, but she impacted the game as much as anyone tonight. That defensive energy is something she can give us each and every game.”
Jill Alleyne- Forward
On the first half…
“It started from the warm-ups. We didn’t have very much energy coming out and that rolled over to how we played, so we can’t come out like that. We need to have a better first half and it starts from warm-ups for us. We are the kind of team that things have to roll over and if they don’t it’s going to affect our game.”
On changes made for the second half…
“What changed is that we moved the ball a lot better in the second half. The turnovers came because we were a little timid and afraid to take some shots, so the fact that we moved the ball and let the offense work for us instead of trying to make it work is what changed the turnovers.”
Amanda Delgado- Guard
On what changed the second half…
“The second half we knew going into the locker room our heads were down and we were very disappointed in ourselves as a whole group. Our defense, we were playing five as one we were playing one as one and at halftime we fixed that and said everything we do we do together, so we pretty much manned up to ourselves and manned up together and showed out.”
On if she is playing her best basketball…
“Yeah. I feel I can play better, but I give all credit to the team because they’ve believed in me all the way and they push me every day in practice to learn and get better and do what I have to do to help the team.”
On hitting two threes and the go-ahead free-throw…
“I wasn’t even looking at the score. I knew we were down the whole game and I knew we had to make some stops, so that is pretty much what was going through my head. Scoring points was in the back of my mind. It was getting defensive stops because defensive stops gets points. When we get those defensive stops we all come together and make shots, so I didn’t make those shots tonight, my team did.”
