Oregon Twilight Meet
Brittany Mann, Women's Shot Put- First Place
On her performance…
“It was good, especially because of the weather. It’s good to know you can throw as far in the rain as you can in the sun.”
On looking forward…
“Things are looking really good going into the PAC-12 and regionals. I’m definitely looking forward to those meets.”
Devon Allen, Men's 110m Hurdles- Second Place
On racing against Ashton Eaton…
“It was a lot of fun. I wanted to get him, but second place to the world’s greatest athlete isn’t bad at all.”
On how he feels compared to earlier in the season…
“It’s a little different. My body almost felt too good I guess. My legs were a little sore, but they weren’t as sore as they would have been after a week of football practice. I feel pretty good, hopefully I’ll be able to train myself back into shape.”
Dior Mathis, Men's 100m Dash- First Place
On the race...
"The rain and the wind had a lot to do with it. I just tried to go out there and run my best and remain healthy. I didn't want to overrun or pull anything."
On balancing football and track...
"I got my legs back and I felt good out there. My legs weren't as heavy from football. Coming out here and having a week of straight track practice felt good."
Ashton Eaton, Men's 110m Hurdles- First Place
On returning to Hayward Field...
"I feel a lot older. There's a lot of things that have passed and i've accomplished a lot. If I look back to the time when I was sitting on the 1500 meter line getting ready for that... It seems like a lifetime."
On his performance...
"I just wanted a smooth race and a decent time. Being the second race of the year, I'm happy with it."
On racing against Devon Allen...
"He's a great athlete. When I saw him run the hurdles earlier this year, then what I saw in the spring game--It's fairly obvious that he's a competitor and a good athlete. I was excited to race against him and I wish him well next weekend in the PAC-12s."
Mac Fleet, Men's 1500m Run
On the race...
"I didn't have a good race today. That was probably the exact opposite of anything I could've wanted. I'm pretty incredibly frustrated right now."
"It's a good time, but it's so far off of what I think I can do physically. I don't think I'm underperforming, but I've been healthy for two years and my workouts have been incredibly. It's frustrating to not necessarily get the time I wanted, but it was great competition and there's definitely some positives coming out of this."
Cyrus Hostetler, Men's Javelin- First Place
On returning to Hayward Field…
“It’s awesome. I used to practice here everyday and I know that all of the alumni appreciate being able to come back.”
On his performance…
“It’s the second meet of the year so I’m still not really expecting much, but it’s always nice to come away with a big throw.”
“The series kind of fell apart with the rain and everybody’s mood dropped a little bit, but we’ve got a couple of big meets coming up here so I’m looking forward to the future.”
Annie Leblanc, Women's 1500m Run- Second Place
On the race…
“My goal today was just to execute the plan. I really wasn’t after any specific time; it was more about getting in the race and running hard the last 80. I’m pretty happy about how the race went and the time that I want will come at some point.”
“Obviously it wasn’t the perfect conditions for a good time, so I’m pretty happy with how it went."
Robert Johnson, Head Coach
On having Oregon alum return to Hayward Field…
“We did a few things differently this meet, one of them being bringing our alumni back. We reached out and made sure we were able to provide them with a few things to get them to come back and for 16 of them to come back is huge.”
On the meet…
“I said that this meet was a chance for some of our athletes to garner the three open spots to go to the Pac-12 meet, and I think we have some of those questions answered after tonight.”
“Overall, it was a chance for us to say goodbye to some of our seniors. It said during the PA announcement that this is the most decorated senior class in Oregon history. A statement like that is huge when you talk about a program so rich in tradition as Oregon. So overall, there was some good stuff tonight.”
