Benson Earns Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week
SAN FRANCISCO – Oregon volleyball’s Amanda Benson was named the Pac-12 Defensive player of the week, Monday, as Oregon swept Arizona State and Oregon State in the final week of the regular season.
Benson averaged 5.50 digs per set in the Ducks' 3-0 victories over Arizona State and Oregon State to close out the season. Benson had a service ace and 13 digs in the match against the Sun Devils followed by 20 digs and an assist against the Beavers. Benson's 20 digs rank her tied for fourth among Pac-12 players in a three-set match this season. It is Benson's first-career weekly accolade and the fourth all-time defensive honor for Oregon.
Oregon qualified for their fifth-straight NCAA Tournament, Sunday, and the ninth in 10 seasons. The Ducks will face No. 6 seed Wisconsin in the first round in Madison, Wis., Thursday at 5:30 p.m. PT.
