Endowments
Permanent funding through endowments is critical to advancing the University of Oregon Athletic Department’s promise of providing our student-athletes with every resource necessary to achieve their athletic and academic goals. In 2014-15, scholarship costs for Duck student-athletes exceeded $10 million. As tuition continues to rise, donor support through endowments is imperative to our continued success.
HOW DO ENDOWMENTS WORK?
Endowed gifts provide a perpetual source of income to the University of Oregon Athletic Department, providing the resources needed to attract and retain the nation’s top student-athletes and coaches. When a donor establishes an endowment, the contributed funds are held, maintained and invested by the UO Foundation. Over time, as earnings accrue, so too does the market value of the fund. Because the fund’s principal is never spent, the endowment lives in perpetuity, providing a meaningful way for donors to leave a lasting legacy in their name or a name of their choice.
There are many ways to establish an endowment, and the arrangements for every gift can be personalized to fit your specific needs. Methods of endowment giving include:
- Gifts of cash or securities, either paid in full or through a pledge that can be paid over five years, minimum of $100,000
- Planned gifts in the form of bequests, charitable gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts
Your friends and family can also make additional gifts to your endowment, increasing the value and impact of your scholarship in future years.
ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS
ENDOWED UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
A gift of $250,000 or more will establish a named endowed scholarship that directly supports student-athletes by underwriting the essential costs of providing the best classroom and competitive experience for our young men and women. An unnamed scholarship can be established for a minimum gift of $100,000. Your gift can be paid over a five-year period.
ENDOWED GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
Oregon Athletics can award scholarships to student-athletes who are no longer receiving financial support from an athletic scholarship and have exhausted their athletic eligibility. Former student-athletes become ready to embrace the completion of their academic studies at different stages in their lives. When this point arrives, Oregon Athletics will reaffirm our commitment to helping these student athletes excel on the playing field of life.
