San Jose State Quotes
Kelly Graves- 2nd year, Head Coach
Opening statement...
"That was a really good game tonight. I was proud of our effort. I was impressed by the way we played against a difficult style, something that you just don't see very often. They rattled us a little bit in the first half but I really liked how we put it together much better in the second half and got most of the shots we wanted. We had some outstanding individual performance tonight and I think all and all a really good effort and 6-0 that sounds pretty good."
On Liz's performance...
"I think Liz is getting better and better. I have been so impressed with her. What she does is she is not going to give you a ton of low post looks, she is just going to go through you and not in a bad way...She does a great job of creating space and she is really smart. She is a smart basketball player. I was really happy for her and she earned the additional minutes."
On Bando's performance...
"I think she is the best shooter I have ever coached. Pure shooter, she does it every day in practice. I have drills that I keep stats on and statistically in practice, she is the best shooter I have ever coached. If you let her get her feet set its like a layup for you and me."
On Bando's work ethic...
"Bando is at practice every day an hour before and does nothing but shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot. She is Larry Bird. She works so hard before practice she has to change her jersey before practice starts because she is sweating. So this is not luck. This is not happened stance. This is something she does. It is who she is. She competes. She wants to be the best."
On Jill's performance...
"I thought that Jill was really impressive tonight. I though this was the best game she played this year, she just had a different energy about her and she can really attack the rebound, it is fun to watch."
Jillian Alleyne- Senior, Forward
On thoughts as the game developed…
“The main key to success for us in this game was getting back in transition D and stopping the three. They ran a system that I have been used to for two years so it was very interesting going against it and kind of seeing what we used to be and how we are now.”
On preparation coming into game…
“We were ready. Nothing was a shock. The threes, the fast break layups. It was almost second nature.”
Lexi Bando- Sophomore, Guard
On where tonight ranks on her list of performances in Matt Knight…
“Well, I’m in college now so it’s different, but my State Championship here was amazing. I shot the ball really well that night. Tonight I came out with confidence and just hit some threes.”
On how she felt coming into the game…
“I could tell, usually I do a pre-game warm-up with coach Mark. During that tonight I could just tell that I was going to be on tonight. It was a good game to go at it and shoot with confidence.”
On what coach Mark (Campbell) brings to this program…
“Coach Mark is someone I really look up to. I do a lot of my guard workouts with him. He has helped me improve my game so much… He’s such a great coach, and I think we are all honored to play for him!”
