Four Ducks earned recognition for their play in 2015 on two of the five most prestigious college football all-America teams, which were released over the past week.
Senior defensive end DeForest Buckner, the Pac-12 defensive player of the year, earned second-team all-America recognition from The Associated Press and the Football Writers’ Association of America. Buckner is second in the Pac-12 with 9.5 sacks and third with 16 tackles for loss.
Running back Royce Freeman also received second-team mention from the FWAA, and was a third-team selection of The Associated Press. Freeman enters the bowl season fourth nationally in rushing with 142.17 yards per game.
Left tackle Tyler Johnstone gave Oregon three second-team all-Americans according to the FWAA. Returning from a knee injury that sidelined him for all of 2014, Johnstone started every game for an offensive line that helped the Ducks lead the Pac-12 in rushing for the 10th straight season.
Placekicker Aidan Schneider was a third-team selection by The Associated Press. The sophomore from Portland connected on 20-of-22 field-goal attempts, with his 90.9 percent accuracy ranking third in the FBS and first among kickers with more than 15 attempts.
Oregon was not represented on the other major all-America teams, released by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, The Sporting News and the American Football Coaches’ Association.
