Arizona State at Oregon - Quotes
Jillian Alleyne – Forward, Junior
On the team’s performance…
“I think the difference was the defense. We played a lot harder in the second half, but we didn’t get the defensive stops that we needed. They were scoring easy buckets, and that’s our fault.”
On room for improvement…
“Every game is a game to build on, win or lose. We obviously need to make our defensive stops at the right times. And then on offense, we just need to knock down shots, get in the gym and hit shots during our free time and during practice.”
On looking forward…
“Utah and Colorado are both great teams, but they’re teams we can compete with. These are two games that we can definitely work hard in and compete with them.”
Lexi Petersen – Guard, Junior
On the game…
“Arizona State is always known for their defense and they’re ranked number 12 for a reason. In the first half, we let their defense get to us a little more. Then in the second half we were a lot more calm. I think it really came down to defense and live-ball turnovers.”
On Jillian Alleyne…
“Jill is a really great player, so anytime she’s out of the game it changes the complexion of our team. I think it was up to the other five players who were out there. We should’ve all stepped up, and we’ve done it before. We just didn’t do it tonight.”
On lessons from the game…
“So far up to this point we’ve gotten better every week. Even though we lost today, I feel like there’s so much we can take away and learn from. We’re going to get even better next week.”
“We still have a lot of room to grow, but I think our fight proved that we’re almost there. The fact that we were able to come back when we were down 14 at the half, and we were in the game for most of the second half, I think that shows a lot.”
“Losses always hurt, but I think they’re starting to hurt more because we’re competing with the teams more now and buying into the system completely. When you give it your all, it hurts a little more.”
Kelly Graves -- UO Head Coach
On the game…
“They are a good basketball team. They are physical and tough. We showed some fight, but by in large they were the more aggressive team all night long and that hurt us.”
On Arizona State’s team…
“That is who they are. They play tough. They recruit the kind of kids that are defense first, that are physical and tough, and then from the day they step on campus it’s reinforced every day.”
“I think they are a great example that it does not have to be about stars. They are just a blue collar team that knows how to play and play hard.”
