Oregon Drops Road Trip Opener to Monmouth

FRESNO, Calif. – Spring break didn’t start the way the Oregon women’s lacrosse team had hoped it would as the Ducks dropped the first game of their four-game road swing to Monmouth, 15-7, on Saturday.
How It Happened: Heading into Saturday’s game, Oregon (6-2, 1-1 MPSF) had led in every game this season at the half, but Monmouth (5-3) had other plans for the Ducks as MU held UO to just one goal and took a 4-1 lead into the break.
Oregon was held to just nine shots in the first half, with its lone goal coming from Olivia Pyne a minute and 40 second into the game. From that point on, Monmouth held the Ducks scoreless for 31:42 before Holly Johnson found the back of the net at the 26:38 mark to make it 5-2 in the second half.
After the two teams exchanged a couple goals, the Hawks went on a 7-0 run despite the best efforts of Janelle Parker, who stopped a career-high 13 save.
Oregon would score four more times in the last 10 minutes of regulation, but it wasn't enough as Monmouth came away victorious 15-7.
Odds & Ends: Pyne has now scored in all eight games this season and extended her scoring streak to 14 counting from last season … Saturday’s game was the first time Oregon trailed at the half this year … UO was outshot in a game for the first time this season as well (33-23).
Up Next: Oregon will wrap up the first leg of its four-game road trip with Fresno State at 4 p.m. on Monday, March 23.
