Ducks Sign Finnish Standout, Petra Salko

EUGENE, Ore. – Head women’s golf coach Ria Scott announced on Friday that Finnish golf standout Petra Salko signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the women’s golf program in the fall. A native of Turku, Finland, Salko comes into Oregon with having earned victories on both the Finnair Junior Tour and the Finnish Tour.
“We are excited to add Petra to our roster,” said Scott. “She will provide the additional depth and international competitive experience we need to compete for a national championship. Additionally, she is a wonderful student with a true understanding for the team.”
Recently, Salko took ninth place in the South American Amateur Championship earlier this year after firing an 11-over 299 that included a 3-under 69 in the third round and even-par 72 in the fourth and final 18 to lock up the top-10 finish.
Playing on the Finnish Tour, she earned first, third and fourth-place finishes throughout 2014 and was runner up in the Women’s U-21 Finnish Championship. At the end of 2014, she was ranked fifth in the Finnish Amateur Rankings and second in the Finnish Tour. She also took fourth in the Women’s Finnish Championship.
2013 saw Salko tally two first-place finishes and a pair of runner-up finishes in tournaments on the Finnair Junior Tour – the main junior tour in Finland. That year she also placed sixth in the Women’s Finnish Championship and fourth in the Women’s U-18 Finnish Championship.
In addition, she also won the U-18 Finnish Matchplay Championships in 2012.
Salko will join Kathleen Scavo as the two incoming Ducks who are set to attend UO in the fall.
