Hawkins Named Eugene Regional MVP
EUGENE, Ore. - University of Oregon junior pitcher Cheridan Hawkins was named Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Division I Women's Softball Championship Eugene Regional after tossing a pair of complete-game victories and finishing off a third to lead the No. 2 Ducks into the Super Regional round.
Hawkins, a left-hander from Anderson, Calif., allowed just four hits and struck out 25 over 14 innings of work as the Ducks (49-6) blanked BYU on Thursday before taking a pair from regional runner-up No. 25 North Dakota State on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
In Saturday’s 6-1 win over the Bison (45-11), Hawkins was called upon with a runner on first base and no outs in the bottom of the seventh and closed out the win with two strikeouts before NDSU made the final out at second base, trying to steal.
Oregon led all teams with six players selected to the all-regional squad. NDSU had four and Fresno State (40-16) one.
