Postgame Quotes - Stanford Game 1
Mike White - Head Coach
On the atmosphere of opening day...
"Oh, it was awesome, the fan fair, the ribbon cutting, having the dedication to Jane Sanders, it was all awesome. And seeing a packed house. Hopefully we get used to it, but right now we didn't play the best softball game but we got the job done."
On Cheridan Hawkins' performance...
"She started off with a walk but then struck the next 5 or 6 out, and then kind of got us all into a little bit of trouble, and then struck people out. It's just what Cheridan does to me, she makes me gray and old."
On pre-game vibes...
"I don't really know what they were thinking, obviously last weekend was different, we were up at Washington and everyone was amped up because of the rivalry; you come out here and you don't know what to expect, it's a little bit different. I think it took us a little bit to change gears."
On playing a night game at the new stadium...
"It's tremendous, you can hardly tell the difference between the day and the night, whereas at Howe Field it was like carrying around flashlights or something. Out here it was awesome."
Cheridan Hawkins - Senior LHP
On the atmosphere...
"It was fun. Super exciting. I think, me personally, I was a little bit nervous, just because we've never played here, and I know some of my teammates were as well. We were wanting to do good for Jane Sanders and the whole Sanders family, and wanting to get the job done to break the stadium in on the first day. You realize what this field's for, it's for such a great woman, so it's really special."
On throwing the first pitch at the stadium...
"It's such an honor, I am thankful to be chosen, he could have picked any four of us and he went with me."
On her strategy...
"I think just being aggressive really helped. My team did a great job scoring those runs in the first inning."
