- Volunteer Coach
In his second season as a volunteer coach, former Duck All-American Akobundu Ikwuakor will continue his work with UO’s decorated men’s sprint and hurdle corps.
As one of UO's greatest hurdlers ever, the Arvada, Colo., native racked up five individual NCAA outdoor invitations in the hurdles and also ran on three 4x400m relay quartets that claimed All-America honors indoors and outdoors. Those units also clocked six of the fastest 10 times in outdoor school history ? including a school record 3:00.81 that placed third in the 2005 NCAA Championships ? and three of UO’s fastest indoor marks. He also claimed six, top-eight finishes in the Pac-10 Championships hurdles events, including a hat trick of third-place finishes in the high hurdles, and were Pac-10 4x400m runners-up three straight season.
On UO’s all-time lists, he still ranks top-10 outdoors in the 110m hurdles (fifth, 13.83), 400m hurdles (eighth, 50.61) and indoors in the 60m hurdles (8.03).
Ikwuakor is completing his coursework for an undergraduate degree in sociology.
