Bill Clever

Bill Clever joined the Oregon athletic department in 1999 where he currently serves as assistant athletic director for compliance. He is primarily responsible for assisting the institution and its athletic department in complying with NCAA and Pac-12 Conference legislation. This responsibility includes the investigation and self-reporting of rules violations, interpretations of legislation and updating staff on changes to the rules.
Clever came to Oregon after two years as an assistant compliance coordinator at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa. While at Penn, he became active in the National Association of Athletic Compliance Coordinators, serving on the board of directors (1999-2004) and eventually serving a term as president (2003).
A graduate of New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M., Clever earned a bachelor’s of arts in political science in 1984. He went on to the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., where he earned his law degree in 1987. After practicing civil, criminal and appellate law for almost 10 years, he discovered an interest in NCAA rules compliance.
Clever is married to Dr. Rita Feldmanis. The couple has two daughters: Josephine May, born February 19, 2004, and Molly Elaine, born March 12, 2007.
