Three-time Olympian and two-time silver medalist Tayyiba Haneef-Park was named assistant coach for the Oregon Volleyball team in February 2022, and in her first season on the bench, the Ducks finished the 2022 campaign with a 26-6 record including a 17-3 mark in Pac-12 play.
The team's 17 conference wins set a program record, surpassing the 2012 national runner-up team that went 16-4 in league play. Oregon finished second in the Pac-12 for a third time in the past five years.
During their recent postseason run, the Ducks were chosen to host the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history and responded with wins over Loyola Marymount and Arkansas to cap an undefeated (14-0) home record at Matthew Knight Arena. Oregon went on to defeat Nebraska in five sets to advance to the program's third regional final.
In working directly with the UO opposites, Haneef-Park helped senior Gloria Mutiri finish ninth in the Pac-12 with a career-high .336 hitting percentage. Mutiri was a 2022 All-Pac-12 and AVCA Pacific North Region honorable mention pick. Additionally, Morgan Lewis was named to the NCAA All-Louisville Region Team after recording 2.60 kills per set and a .377 hitting percentage against Nebraska and Louisville.
Individually, the Ducks collected three AVCA All-Americans in 2022 with the standout efforts of Brooke Nuneviller (first team), Hannah Pukis (second team) and Mimi Colyer (third team). Colyer, along with Pac-12 and regional honors, was named the 2022 AVCA National Freshman of the Year, a first for the Oregon program. With her selection, Nuneviller became the first three-time All-American in Oregon history, and fourth to earn First-Team accolades.
Haneef-Park was a member of the U.S. Women’s Volleyball National Team at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Games and won silver medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics in Beijing and London, respectively. She also helped Team USA to a gold medal at the 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix to go along with a pair of bronze Grand Prix finishes in 2003 and 2004.
Most recently, Haneef-Park served as director of sport for the Athletes Unlimited Professional League and as a head coach in the league during the 2021 season. That same year, she was an assistant coach for the USA Volleyball Women’s Collegiate National Team with additional duties as head coach of the U17/18 Girls USA National Team Development program.
In 2019, Haneef-Park was head coach of Team USA at the NORCECA Continental Championships and an assistant coach at the Pan American Cup.
Haneef-Park has previous experience within the Pac-12 as an assistant coach for the beach volleyball team at the University of Arizona (2014-16). She has also served as the head coach at Laguna Hills High School where she was a three-sport standout during her prep career.
During her playing career with the U.S. Women’s National Team, Haneef-Park also helped the United States to a silver medal at the 2002 World Championships and three podium finishes—2003: bronze, 2007: bronze, 2011: silver—at the FIVB World Cup.
Haneef-Park was a 2001 AVCA First-Team All-American for Long Beach State after guiding the team to a 33-1 record and national runner-up finish. That season, she hit .406 while averaging 5.03 kills per set. In 1998, Haneef-Park was a redshirt freshman on the LBSU team that posted a perfect 36-0 record with an NCAA Championships title.
During her collegiate career, she was also a three-time All-American high jumper for Long Beach State and competed at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials. Haneef-Park earned a degree in speech communications (2001) and was inducted into the LBSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008.
