Oregon - Colorado State postgame quotes
11/16/09 | Men's Basketball
Oregon vs. Colorado State
Ernie Kent - Head Coach
On the weekend: “Three games in three nights are tough on a coaching staff I can't imagine what it's like on our players. But it was really nice to play three different styles.”
On team defense vs. CSU: “I've got to compliment our defense. We held McFarland to 15 and shut down their post in the second half.”
“It was nice to play against three very different opponent playing styles where CSU really tried to control the game and make us defend the half court.”
On Tajuan Porter: “TP is going to have a great senior year. I think part of that are the guys around him being one year older and a lot better.”
On not running the zone: “No zone in these three games but its there, it's ready. It takes over a year to get it in and I'm glad we didn't have to show it this weekend and can use it later.”
On playing rotation: “Definitely by feel throughout the game. Mainly based on fatigue, but the team is so evenly matched there's not much drop down, maybe besides TP because of how unique some of the things he's able to do.”
On importance of team chemistry: “I told our guys it's important to keep our chemistry. It's a long season and you might have guys right now not seeing a lot of time that will later on will be counted on.”
Tajuan Porter - Sr., G
On team's progress: “We still have got a lot of growing to do. We're good in spurts but still haven't reached our full offensive and defensive potential.”
On defensive stamina: “We've always been a great defensive conditioning team. Fatigue wasn't a problem. You got to take care of your body over the course of 3 games in a row.”
On press Defense: “I think our five press is really disruptive and makes other teams think. We've always been a man to man team but our focus on communication and helping, playing hard nosed defense is the same.”
On the team hitting its stride: “It's just a matter of time before all of my teammates hit their stride. I know what I'm capable of but I know the ball is not always going to go in the hole and that's where we'll have to count on each other.”
Joevan Catron - Sr., F
On the teams comfort level: “Teams are going to come at us and play us hard so we have to be ready for that every night. It's nice to get off to a 3-0 start.'
On Communication: “We definitely communicate a lot on defense. That's been the coach's one big thing and I think we've bought into it and its paying off.”
On last season's outcome as motivation: “It's all of our motivation. It was a terrible season and we all know that. But we all know we have to bounce back. We know we're a good team and are going to get more than 8 wins.”
