Keys Second After Day One of First College Decathlon

Keys, a redshirt freshman from Sweet Home, Ore., scored 3,900 points on day one, just 20 back of the leader. Chris Randolph, competing for Sketchers, scored 3,920 points.
Keys leapt 23-11.75/7.31 meters in the long jump to match his all conditions best. He was second in the high jump with a clearance at 6-4/1.93m.
Keys also ran 11.22 in the 100 meters and 50.98 in the 400 meters, and threw 42-2/12.85 in the shot put.
Freshman Alec Fellows was in seventh place through five events with 3,668 points. The freshman from Woodway, Wash., finished fourth in both the 100 meters (11.17) and long jump (22-7/6.88m).
Monday also marked the 2012 outdoor debut of six-time NCAA champion Brianne Theisen.
Competing in only selected heptathlon events at the Sam Adams meet, Theisen won the 100 meter hurdles in 13.48 and the 200 meters in 24.21. She also set a heptathlon personal best in the shot put with a throw of 41-6/12.65m. The senior from Humboldt, Sask., did not compete in the high jump.
