02/27/18 | Track and Field
Oregon track and field has qualified 15 individuals and three relays for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will take place in College Station, Texas, on March 9-10
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon track and field program has qualified 15 individuals and three relay teams for the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships, which will take place in College Station, Texas, for the second year in a row on March 9-10.
The Women of Oregon will send 10 student-athletes to College Station to compete in seven individual events, as well as a 4x400-meter relay team and a distance-medley relay team. The UO women will head to Texas with a recent history of dominance at the national meet, having won seven of the last eight NCAA Indoor titles.
The Ducks will be most represented in the distance events, with Jessica Hull and Lilli Burdon both qualified in the 3,000 meters, an event in which they currently rank second and third, respectively, in Oregon history. Hull and Burdon were also in the top 16 nationally in the mile, but did not enter that event as they will plan to run on the DMR team in addition to the 3,000.
Redshirt senior Sabrina Southerland is entered in the 800 meters after qualifying for NCAA Indoors for the fourth time in her career. Like Hull and Burdon, Southerland was in the top 16 in the mile but scratched out of that race to focus on the 800 and the DMR. Those three pulling out of the mile helped pave the way for junior transfer Susan Ejore to get in off the bubble.
Sophomore Makenzie Dunmore will represent the Ducks in the 60 meters after posting the nation's sixth-best time during the season. The busiest event for the Women of Oregon will be the 400 meters, in which three Ducks are qualified. Sophomore Hannah Waller leads the way with the No. 9 mark in the nation, and both freshman Shae Anderson and junior Briyahna DesRosiers qualified with identical 52.83 marks.
Redshirt junior Alaysha Johnson, who is tied at No. 5 in the nation this season in the 60-meter hurdles, will run at the NCAA Indoor Championships for the third straight year.
Junior ChaQuinn Cook earned a spot at the NCAA Indoor meet for the first time in her career, qualifying in the triple jump. Cook broke the Oregon indoor record in the triple jump earlier this season.
The two relays will round out the entries for the Women of Oregon. The Ducks finished the indoor season with the third-best time in the 4x400 relay, and the No. 6 mark in the distance-medley relay.
The Men of Oregon will go to College Station with five student-athletes entered in three events, as well as the distance-medley relay. Like the women, the Oregon men have recently performed well at indoor nationals, winning three of the last four national championships.
Also like the UO women, the men will have a solid contingent of distance runners in Texas. The UO men, who posted eight sub-4 miles this season, will have three individuals entered in the mile. Redshirt senior Sam Prakel leads the Ducks into the NCAAs with the ninth-best time in the nation (3:56.89), and true freshman Reed Brown is two spots behind at 3:57.23. Mick Stanovsek also qualified for NCAA Indoors with a top time of 3:57.90.
In the longer distance events, junior transfer James West is qualified in the 3,000 meters, and redshirt sophomore Tanner Anderson will run the 5,000 meters. West was 10th nationally in the 3,000 meters this season, while Anderson ranked 12th in the 5,000 meters.
The distance-medley relay team completes the entries for the UO men with the fourth-best mark in the nation this season.
