Ducks Fall To Hot-Shooting Stanford
02/03/18 | Men's Basketball
Stanford went 12-of-20 from three-point range to down the Oregon men's basketball team 96-61 Saturday afternoon.
STANFORD, Calif. – The Oregon men's basketball team could not find an answer to Stanford's three-point shooting as the Ducks fall to the Cardinal 96-61 Saturday at the Maples Pavilion.
How it Happened: The Ducks (15-8, 5-5) opened the game trading buckets with Stanford throughout the early portion of the first half.
In his first start since the Dec. 16 game at Fresno State, redshirt junior Paul White made his presence known early scoring seven points to give UO an 11-10 edge at the 15:37 mark.
The Cardinal answered right back with a 9-2 run to retake the lead 19-13 following a layup from Michael Humphrey.
Stanford stretched its lead to as high as 32-16, before a quick 10-0 run sparked by a jumper from Troy Brown Jr. brought the Ducks back within 10, 32-26, with eight minutes left in the first half. Both Troy Brown Jr. and Elijah Brown recorded five points each during UO's run.
Stanford kept the Ducks at arms-length the rest of the first half as UO made only two buckets, both three-point shots from Victor Bailey Jr., in the final six minutes. The Cardinal ended the first half shooting 67 percent from the floor, 6-of-9 from three-point range, to lead Oregon 50-34.
White opened the second half much like the first scoring three points the hard way, but those would be the only points for the Ducks throughout the first six minutes of the half. Stanford took advantage of Oregon's scoring drought, extending their lead to 64-39.
The Cardinal's hot-shooting continued throughout the second half as Stanford proceeded to go 6-of-11 from three point range, finishing the half shooting 57 percent from the floor.
Who Stood Out: Troy Brown Jr. led the team with 15 points and six rebounds on 6-of-8 shooting … Victor Bailey Jr. netted an additional 13 points as four Ducks finished the game in double-figures.
Notable: Kenny Wooten continued to climb up the Pac-12 freshman single-season blocks list tying Jakob Poetl of Utah (2015) for sixth with 63 total blocks after his two blocks against the Cardinal … Stanford's 50 points in the first half is the most given up by Oregon in the first half all season … The 12 three-pointers made by Stanford marks the second-most given up by UO this season.
Up Next: The Ducks return to Matthew Knight Arena to host Washington Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. PT (FS1).
