EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Oregon will host the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field, the NCAA announced on Thursday morning.
On Tuesday, Oregon revealed plans for a renovated Hayward Field that will set a new standard for sports venues around the globe when it opens in 2020.
The Ducks will host the NCAA Championships for a sixth consecutive year this spring (June 6-9), marking the seventh time in the last nine years the event has taken place at historic Hayward Field. Texas will host the 2019 and 2020 NCAA Championships, the NCAA announced Thursday, before the meet returns to Eugene for 2021 and 2022.
"We look forward to continuing our tradition of hosting the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 2021 and 2022 in the new Hayward Field, which will be the finest facility of its kind in the world," said Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens. "While we expressed strong interest in hosting this event in our new facility in 2020 and are disappointed that we won't have that opportunity, we are excited to provide the best track and field experience for student-athletes again this June as well as to resume hosting this first-class event in 2021. We have the best track and field fans in the nation, and we look forward to welcoming them into Hayward Field for this event for many years to come."
The 2021 NCAA Championships will be one of the first major competitions in the new Hayward Field, before Eugene takes center stage for the 2021 IAAF World Championships.
"This entire community looks forward to hosting the outstanding student-athletes for the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Track and Field Championships in a beautiful new stadium," associate athletic director Vin Lananna said.
The 2022 men's competition at Hayward Field will be the 100th NCAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the most awarded of all the NCAA titles.
Oregon and the new Hayward Field will host the 2021 NCAA Championships on June 9-12, while the 2022 national meet is set for June 8-11.
