Four Ducks moved into the Oregon all-time top 10 in the 1,500 meters Friday night
Four Ducks moved into the Oregon all-time top 10 in the 1,500 meters Friday night at the Bryan Clay Invitational to lead the UO track and field teams on a hectic day in Southern California.
In action at three separate meets on the second day of a busy weekend, the Ducks were the most active in Torrance, Calif., with 13 events at the Mt. SAC Relays. The javelin throwers for the Men of Oregon competed at Beach Invitational in Long Beach, and Oregon's 1,500-meter runners closed out the day with a terrific showing at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa.
How it Happened - Bryan Clay Invitational: Running in a very fast heat of the men's 1,500 meters that saw New Mexico's Josh Kerr (3:35.01) break the collegiate record, Sam Prakel and James West both ran career-bests and earned spots on the UO top-10 list. Prakel was fourth overall in 3:36.84 to move to No. 6 at Oregon, and West slotted in one spot behind on the all-time list after finishing seventh in 3:37.41. Freshman Reed Brown was third in his heat and 12th overall in a PR 3:39.56, and Mick Stanovsek also set a PR in 3:39.82.
Jessica Hull and Lilli Burdon continued their tremendous junior seasons in the fast heat of the women's 1,500, finishing as the top two collegians with huge personal-bests. Hull crossed in 4:10.46, a PR of almost three seconds and the fifth-best mark in Oregon history, and Burdon (4:12.52) smashed her career-best by more than four seconds to move to No. 7 all-time.
Mt. SAC Relays: Multiple Ducks came away with impressive showings in the collegiate open events of the famous Mt. SAC Relays.
After sweeping the horizontal jumps at the Pepsi Invitational in his UO home debut two weeks ago, Tristan James (below) took second and set personal-bests in both events on Friday. James bested his legal and all-conditions PR in the long jump, leaping to a career-best 25 feet, four inches. The junior transfer and Oregon native later set a new legal PR of 50-11 in the triple jump while going against a headwind.

Another freshman, Rieker Daniel, ran 10.56 to go 1-2 with Schmidt (10.66) in their heat of the men's 100 meters, and Daniel (21.41) later won his heat and was ninth overall (21.41) in the 200 meters.
Sophomore Maddie Rabing reached 48-4.5 to finish third overall in the women's shot put, and classmate Sebastian Barajas was fourth in men's shot put (55-7).
Beach Invitational: Redshirt junior John Nizich finished as the top collegian to highlight a short stay for UO at the Beach Invitational, throwing a season-best 232-2. Redshirt sophomore Jackson VanVuren reached 207-3 to place 10th among collegians.
Up Next: The Ducks will close out their weekend in Southern California on Saturday with entries in 16 elite invitational events at the Mt. SAC Relays as they look to continue piling up NCAA West Regional qualifying marks.
