After breaking the UO outdoor triple jump record last weekend, junior Chaquinn Cook has been named the Pac-12 women's field athlete of the week
EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon track and field junior Chaquinn Cook has been named the Pac-12 women's field athlete of the week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Cook earned the weekly honor, the first of her career, after breaking the Oregon outdoor triple jump record last weekend in the elite invitational section at the Mt. SAC Relays. Cook soared to a huge personal best of 45 feet, seven inches to finish third and move to the top of the UO outdoor list.
Cook now owns the Oregon all-time records in both the indoor and outdoor triple jump, and she is up to No. 4 on the Pac-12 all-time performance list. Cook also performed well in the collegiate open section of the long jump at Mt. SAC, finishing third at 19-11.75.
After her record-breaking mark, Cook is currently No. 2 in the nation this season in the women's outdoor triple jump, trailing only six-time NCAA champion Keturah Orji of Georgia. She is also in the top 25 nationally in the long jump (20-7.25).
This is the first Pac-12 weekly award for the Ducks this season.
