Brown Jr. Declares for NBA Draft
04/03/18 | Men's Basketball
EUGENE. Ore. – Oregon freshman Troy Brown Jr. will declare for the 2018 NBA draft, he told coach Dana Altman on Tuesday afternoon.
"Troy called me shortly after 1 p.m. today and informed me that he has decided to declare for the NBA Draft. I told Troy we fully support his decision, and wish him the best," said Altman. "We really enjoyed working with Troy this year. He is a terrific young man and we look forward to the next chapter of his career in the NBA."
Brown Jr. was a Pac-12 all-freshman honorable mention selection after averaging 11.3 points and 3.3.2 assists per game. He led the Ducks in rebounding at 6.2 per game and also had a team-best 55 steals on the season, which ranked tied for ninth on the UO single-season list.
"I enjoyed my time at Oregon but I feel I'm ready now to take this next step," Brown Jr. told ESPN, which first reported the news. "The NBA has been my dream since I was a little kid and now it's right there in front of me so I have to take advantage of the opportunity.
"The University of Oregon has been a good experience for me," he said. "I appreciated the support from my coaches, teammates, and the fans. It's difficult to leave that behind."
The 6-7 forward is the first Oregon Duck to declare for the NBA Draft following his freshman season; he would become Oregon's first one-and-done NBA draftee.
