SPRINTERS TURN UP THE HEAT IN THE DESERT
A weekend in which head coach Robert Johnson was looking for "sharpening and fine-tuning" from his team turned into much more as the Ducks' sprinters shined at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz. The Ducks came away with 10 UO top-10 marks in Tucson, while also recording a slew of personal-bests and NCAA top-25 marks. Oregon also got a strong showing from a contingent at the OSU High Performance Meet in Corvallis, Ore., highlighted by PRs from Sabrina Southerland (1,500m) and Ben Milligan (High Jump). Milligan moved into sole possession of the No. 5 all-time mark in the high jump, giving Oregon 11 total top-10 marks in program history last weekend.
DUCKS AMONG NATION'S BEST
The Ducks are currently boasting 31 marks that rank in the top 25 in the nation this season, including 15 in the top 10 and eight in the top five. Jessica Hull (1,500M) and Sabrina Southerland (800M) currently lead the way for the Ducks with No. 2 national ratings, while freshman Lauren Rain Williams is No. 3 in the 200 meters. 'THE FINEST TRACK AND FIELD FACILITY IN THE WORLD' SET TO OPEN IN 2020
On Tuesday, April 17, the University of Oregon unveiled plans for a track and field stadium worthy of the legacies of Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. Slated to open in 2020, Hayward Field will set a new standard for sports venues, create world-class training and competition facilities for student-athletes, and incorporate new laboratories and research facilities to better understand the potential of human performance.
"When complete, Hayward Field will be nothing less than the finest track and field facility in the world, emblematic of the risk takers and innovators who have made Oregon great," said Michael H. Schill, University of Oregon president. "The new design for Hayward Field is awe-inspiring, amazing, and completely in accord with the university's relentless pursuit of excellence in everything that we do."
