Ducks Announce 2017-18 Team Awards

EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon track and field program announced its team awards for the 2017-18 season at its annual team banquet on Sunday afternoon.
Katie Rainsberger received the Tom Heinonen Cross Country Award as the outstanding women's performer for cross country, while Tanner Anderson was honored with the Bill Dellinger Cross Country Award as the top performer on the men's team.
Sabrina Southerland, the NCAA Indoor and Pac-12 champion in the 800 meters, was awarded the Lynne Winbigler Performer of the Year award, given in recognition of outstanding athletic achievement by a female track and field athlete.
Redshirt senior Sam Prakel, who won the 1,500 meters a couple weeks ago for his first Pac-12 title, was honored as the top men's track and field performer with the George Scharpf Outstanding Athlete award.
Jessica Hull, who has made a tremendous impact for the Ducks in all three seasons this year, received the Mary Officer Award for her great contribution to the program. On the men's side, Damarcus Simpson and Cravon Gillespie earned the Harry Ritchie's Jewelers Award for their contributions to the program.
Six Ducks – Braxton Canady, Ben Milligan, James West, Lilli Burdon, Chaquinn Cook and Maddie Rabing – were honored with the Coaches Awards, which are presented by the coaches to recognize athletic achievement, dedication and determination.
Redshirt sophomore Mick Stanovsek was honored for his athletic achievement and leadership with the Don Wilson Inspirational Award, while the duo of Kylee O'Connor and Venessa D'Arpino received the Harry Ritchie's Jewelers Inspirational Award.
Lauren Rain Williams, Reed Brown, Cooper Teare, Shae Anderson, Rieker Daniel, Tristan James and Jasmin Reed all received the Perry Holloman Newcomer of the Year Award for their athletic contributions in their first season with the program.
The Oregon Track and Field Hall of Fame Award, presented annually to recognize outstanding service and loyalty to the track and field program, was presented to Lance Deal. Deal, an Olympic silver medalist and 21-time national champion in the hammer throw who coached for the Ducks for eight years and has been the program's director of track and field venues and program support since 2010, is retiring this summer and was honored for all he has done over his many years with the program.
