Men's Tennis Adds Top French Recruit Emmanuel Coste
05/07/18 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. - The Oregon men's tennis team bolstered its 2018-19 lineup with the addition of Emmanuel Coste as announced by head coach Nils Schyllander Monday.
"Emmanuel is a young man with outstanding character and talent," said Schyllander. "He fits in perfectly with what we are trying to accomplish here at Oregon."
Originally from Aix-en-Provence, France, Coste was ranked as one of the top 10 junior tennis players in France.
He finished his juniors career with a 34-22 singles record. Coste has enjoyed tremendous success the past two years, reaching three ITF tournament singles finals in 2016, winning the Dijon Lac Kir ITF Juniors tournament.
Ranked among the top 200 junior players in the world, he was invited to play in the 2017 Junior French Open at the historic Stade Roland-Garros.
A formidable doubles player as well, Coste partnered with Jonas Eriksson Ziverts of Sweden to reach the semifinals of the Beaulieu-sur-Mer ITF Junior Tournament, a Grade 1 tournament, last April. Coste had a career juniors doubles record of 24-20.
"Obviously his athletic achievements speak for themselves," continued Schyllander. "But during the recruitment process his passion for our outstanding university and tennis program became very clear as well. We are blessed and thrilled to welcome Emmanuel to the Duck family!"
