Ducks Tied for First Heading into Final Series of Regular Season
05/09/18 | Softball
EUGENE, Ore. - The No. 2 ranked Oregon softball team is tied for first in the Pac-12 standings as it heads to Berkeley for the final series of the regular season.
The Ducks and No. 24 ranked Golden Bears open the series at 3 PM on Thursday and play again at 3 PM on Friday. The series and season finale is at noon on Saturday.
The Ducks (18-3 in Pac-12 play) are tied with UCLA with three games left to play. Oregon is looking for its fifth Pac-12 title in the last six seasons. The Pac-12 recognizes co-champions if a tie occurs at the end of the regular season, despite the Ducks owning the tiebreaker after taking 2-of-3 games against the Bruins to open league play this year. The tiebreaker only comes into play to decided which team gets the Pac-12's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. But the with the Ducks ranked No. 2 in the NFCA poll and UCLA at No. 1, both teams are far more interested in the league championship than the automatic bid.
#2 OREGON DUCKS (44-7, 18-3 Pac-12)
Team BA: .320 | Team ERA: 1.14 | Runs Scored: 313 | Runs Allowed: 69
Recently: Swept Utah last weekend, outscoring the Utes 21-3
National Rankings: The Ducks are No. 2 in both the NFCA & USA Softball polls
All-Time Series: Cal leads, 78-51 (UO has won 12 of last 13 meetings, 4 straight)
Last Year: UO swept California at home and outscored the Bears 17-4
Notable: Going into the final weekend of the regular season, the No. 2 ranked Ducks have a lot to play for. Oregon is tied on top of the Pac-12 standings with UCLA. And while Oregon has the tiebreaker from winning the series with Bruins, the Pac-12 recognizes co-champs if a tie occurs at the end of the regular season. While UO is No. 2 in the NFCA and USA Softball polls, Oregon is No. 1 in the NCAA RPI, a major factor in determining seeding for the postseason. The Ducks are looking to be the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in four years (went to the WCWS semis as the No. 1 seed in 2014).
#24 CALIFORNIA GOLDEN BEARS (34-16, 7-13 Pac-12)
Team BA: .279 | Team ERA: 2.13 | Runs Scored: 254 | Runs Allowed: 120

Lindsay Rood is hitting a team-high .345 with a Pac-12-best 30 stolen bases on 30 attempts. Cal uses two starting pitchers. Kamalani Dung has a 2.03 ERA in 145.0 innings with 164 strikeouts and 55 walks. Zoe Conley has a 2.05 ERA in 177.2 innings with 176 strikeouts and 56 walks.
