06/11/18 | Men's Tennis
EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Thomas Laurent of the Oregon men's tennis team was named to the all-Pac-12 first team, the conference announced Monday.
This is Laurent's second straight first-team selection. He is now the second Duck in program history to be receive all-conference first team honors, following the likes of Sven Swinnen who earned all-Pac-10 first team recognition in 2004 and 2005.
The Montpellier, France native, continued to break records and rack up career milestones during his junior season. He finished the year 26-7 overall in singles play, going 18-5 from the No. 1 position during the spring season.
Laurent closed out the year 5-1 over the final six matches, recording four straight ranked victories, while clinching Oregon's first-ever victories over California to end the regular season and open the Pac-12 Tournament. He finished the year 12-6 against ranked foes.
His outstanding year earned him a bid to the NCAA Singles Championships for the second year in a row. Despite having to withdraw due to injury, Laurent is still only the second Duck ever to be selected to the individual tournament twice.
With one season left to play at Oregon, Laurent is currently tied with Daniel Sardu for fifth on the UO all-time singles wins list with a career record of 75-20. This year he also became one half of UO's all-time winningest doubles pairs, partnering with Cormac Clissold for a 23-10 record.
As a duo Laurent and Clissold are 62-17 all-time, breaking Robin Cambier and Jeff Mullen's record of 57-11.
