Prandini Takes Third in USATF 100 Meters
06/22/18 | Track and Field
DES MOINES, Iowa – A third-place finish in the 100 meters by former Oregon track and field superstar Jenna Prandini on Friday headlined the first two days of the USATF Outdoor Track and field Championships for a large contingent of past and current Ducks at Drake Stadium.
The four-day meet continues on Saturday and Sunday, with live coverage on NBC from 1 to 3 p.m. PT both days.
How it Happened: Prandini, the 2015 winner of the prestigious Bowerman Award for the Ducks, ran 10.95 on Thursday to place second in her first-round heat and reach the semifinals on Friday, where she won her heat in 11.00 to auto-advance to the final a couple hours later. Prandini narrowly finished third in the final, running an impressive time of 10.98 to cross the line just .07 seconds behind winner Aleia Hobbs (LSU).

Redshirt senior Sabrina Southerland and 2017 Bowerman winner Raevyn Rogers both advanced through the first two rounds of the 800 meters to reach the final, set for 1:04 p.m. PT on Sunday. Rogers ran 2:00.17 to win her semifinal heat on Friday, while Southerland took third in her heat in 2:01.28.
Five former Ducks advanced out of the opening round of the men's 1,500 meters on Thursday to qualify for the final, including recently graduated Sam Prakel, who signed his first professional contract with Total Sports US on Wednesday. Prakel will be joined in Saturday's final by Erik Jenkins, Matthew Centrowitz, Colby Alexander and Johnny Gregorek. Jenkins ran the fastest time of the first round in 3:40.63.
Redshirt junior Alaysha Johnson advanced to Saturday's semifinal of the women's 100-meter hurdles on Friday, earning a time qualifier in 13.02.
Current Ducks Ariana Washington (100m), Briyahna DesRosiers (400m) and Cravon Gillespie (100m) all reached the semifinals of their respective events but were unable to advance to the final, as did former Ducks Deajah Stevens (100m), Laura Roesler (800m), Mike Berry (400m) and Marcus Chambers (400m). Roesler ran a very strong time of 2:00.84 in the 800 meter semifinal, but was one spot shy of making the final.
Up Next: Still left to compete for the Ducks is Braxton Canady in the 110-meter hurdles, Ben Milligan in the high jump and Damarcus Simpson in the long jump, and Washington will be back in the 200 meters. Former Ducks still yet to see action include Devon Allen (110mH), Trevor Dunbar (5,000m), Kyree King (200m), Cole Walsh (Pole Vault), Ashley Maton (5,000m) and Jasmine Todd (Long Jump). Prandini and Stevens will also return to run the 200 meters along with Washington.
