U.S. Titles for #ProDucks Prandini, Allen
06/24/18 | Track and Field
DES MOINES, Iowa - Jenna Prandini won the 200 meters for her second career U.S. championship and Devon Allen claimed his third national title since 2014 in the 110 meter hurdles on Sunday to round out the four-day USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships for 29 former and current Ducks at Drake Stadium.
How it Happened: After waiting out a weather delay that last nearly three hours, Prandini put the exclamation point on a strong weekend in Des Moines, winning the 200 meters after placing third in the 100 on Friday. Prandini ran 22.22 to win her semifinal heat with the top mark in the field, and then posted a 22.62 in the final to lead a 1-2 finish with fellow UO alumna Phyllis Francis, who took second in 22.83. Recently graduated Ariana Washington placed seventh in 23.22 after running a season-best 22.54 in the semifinal.
Allen, who won U.S. titles in the 110 hurdles in both 2014 and 2016, kept his even-year streak alive with a thrilling win over Florida's Grant Holloway in the final. Allen crossed in 13.452, just .002 ahead of Holloway (13.454). Allen ran even faster in the semifinal, winning his heat in 13.38 while running into a headwind. Sophomore Braxton Canady ran 14.00 in the semifinal but did not qualify for the final.
2017 Bowerman Award winner Raevyn Rogers used a tremendous finish to claim runner-up honors in the 800 meters, moving past several runners on the homestretch to finish in a lifetime-best 1:58.57. 2018 NCAA Indoor and Pac-12 champion Sabrina Southerland placed eighth in 2:01.62.
Pac-12 champion Damarcus Simpson showed well in the long jump final, placing fourth with a top leap of 26 feet, two-and-three-quarter inches (7.99m). Junior Ben Milligan cleared 7-1.5 (2.17m) in the high jump to finish 10th, and former Duck Trevor Dunbar was 12th in the 5,000 meters (13:46.20).
