08/13/19 | Women's Volleyball
EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon volleyball team will open the 2019 season with a top-15 national ranking after coming in at No. 11 in the AVCA preseason coaches poll released on Tuesday.
The No. 11 ranking ties the 2008 team for the second-highest preseason ranking in program history, behind only the 2013 squad (No. 8). The Ducks closed the 2018 season at No. 9 in the AVCA poll after their thrilling run to the NCAA Elite Eight.
Oregon is the second-highest ranked Pac-12 team in the preseason poll, behind only No. 1 Stanford. Washington (No. 13), USC (14), Washington State (22) and Arizona (24) are also inside the top 25, with Utah, UCLA and Colorado all receiving votes.
The Ducks, who were picked to finish third in the Pac-12 on Monday, will face a trio of top-15 teams on their first road trip of the season, taking on No. 12 Pittsburgh on Sept. 11 before playing No. 3 Minnesota and No. 8 Penn State on Sept. 13-14 at the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge in University Park, Pa. Oregon beat Minnesota twice in 2018, including an epic 3-1 win over the Gophers at the Sweet Sixteen in Minneapolis.
In total, Oregon's 2019 schedule includes three matches against teams ranked in the preseason top five, four matches against top-10 teams and 13 matches against top-25 opponents.
Duck fans can get their first look at the 2019 squad on Saturday, Aug. 24 (7 p.m.), in Oregon's annual Green-Yellow Scrimmage at Matthew Knight Arena. The Ducks will open the season at home against UC Irvine and Boston College in the Oregon Classic on Aug. 30-31.
