EUGENE ? Malik Hairston poured in 30 points and nine rebounds to pace the Ducks to a 106-79 in an exhibition victory over Langley, B.C's Trinity Western University in front of 8,918 fans at McArthur Court Sunday.
Hairston, a freshman guard from Detroit, Mich., shot 10-of-12 from the floor and three-of four from three-point range. He also added three assists and a block in 19 minutes of play.
"Malik did not take one shot out of our system," Oregon head coach Ernie Kent said. "He played 19 minutes, scored 30 points and shot almost perfect from the field. That just shows how special a player he is. He played completely within himself, and showed what a selfless teammate he can be."
Freshman guard Bryce Taylor added 13 points and three rebounds, and freshman forward Maarty Leunen grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to go with eight points. Forward Ian Crosswhite was the third Duck to notch double-digit points, pitching in 11. Point guard Aaron Brooks had a game-high six assists to go along with seven points and three steals. Redshirt freshman center Ray Schafer shot a perfect three-of-three from the floor for seven points.
All 12 Oregon players who saw action scored points and all but one played 10 minutes or more.
"I feel we can go 13 or 14 (players) deep with no problem," Kent said. "When we set our rotation we will more than likely go about 10-deep. With that kind of competition in practice that will create a incredibly intense atmosphere."
Trinity Western was led by guard Adam Friesen's game-high 31 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor and four-of-10 from beyond the three-point stripe. The Ducks were the Spartans' fourth NCAA Division I opponent, which included Georgia, Hampton and Pacific.
Donald Burton added 14 points, but committed 10 turnovers for the Spartans, while Stephen Janzen added 11. TWU hit nine-of-26 from three-point range (34.6 percent) to Oregon's 29.2 percent (seven-of-24).
The Ducks will play one more exhibition before the regular season begins, next Sunday (Nov. 14), against Western Oregon at 3:30 p.m. at McArthur Court.
