Women?s Golf Struggles at Peg Barnard

STANFORD, Calif. ? The Oregon women's golf team shot a 317 and was in ninth place after day one of the Peg Barnard California Collegiate, played Saturday on the par-72, 6,159-yard Stanford Golf Course.
Sophomore Erin Andrews' 77 led Oregon, while sophomore Michelle Timpani carded a 78 and Johnna Nealy, a junior from Grants Pass, Ore., had an 80. Andrews was tied for 22nd, while Timpani was tied for 24th and Nealy was tied for 36th.
No. 24 Stanford led the team competition with a first-round total of 295. Denver was second at 303, followed by No. 12 Washington's 304, UC Irvine at 306, San Jose State at 307, Washington State at 308, San Francisco at 311 and Oregon State at 316.
The Ducks were ninth, followed by Portland State (318), Nevada (319), Montana State (321) and Long Beach State (325).
Individually, San Jose State's Ashley Gomes was the only golfer to break par Saturday with a 71 and held a one-shot lead on UC Irvine's Angela Won and Washington State's Ana Kostina.
The two-round tournament concludes Sunday.
