
Men's Tennis Falls to Florida State, 5-2

HONOLULU ? The University of Oregon men's tennis team (1-1, 0-0) dropped its first dual of the season, 5-2, to Florida State Saturday. The Ducks produced wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions but were swept at the remaining four spots and failed to grab the doubles point.
In doubles play, Oregon lost at all three positions as the Seminoles jumped out to 1-0 lead. The Ducks showed life in singles play, winning two of the three matches that reached three sets. No. 16-ranked Sven Swinnen defeated Mat Cloer, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4, while No. 57 Manuel Kost took care of Ytai Abougzir, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Swinnen is now four wins (67) away from becoming Oregon's all-time career leader, while Kost cracked the top ten with his 50th career victory.
Florida State went on to win at the remaining four positions to earn the victory.
"There were some tough conditions out there today," Oregon head coach Kevin Kowalik said. "It was hot and humid but I felt for this early in the season, the team competed well. We need to improve on some things but without a doubt, we are moving in the right direction."
The Ducks open their home schedule next weekend when they play host to Gonzaga (Sat., 9 a.m.) and Linfield (Sat., 5 p.m.) at the Student Tennis Center. Live scoring for both matches with be available on www.goducks.com.
