Ma Leads Ducks at Ashford Collegiate

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. ? The Oregon men's golf team struggled mightily in the second round and was last of 15 teams following Tuesday's play at the Ashford Collegiate Invitational. The Ducks were 29 shots over par in the second round alone at the 6,742-yard par-71 North Ranch Country Club course and were 48 over for the tournament.
Matt Ma was the only Duck among the top 60 players in the field. The sophomore from Aiea, Hawaii, shot rounds of 73-72 and was tied for 21st at 3-over 145.
No. 23 Tennessee recorded rounds of 284-279 for a 5-under 563 total and held a slim four-shot lead on No. 8 USC, which had a 567. No. 10 Brigham Young and Georgia Southern were tied for third at 571, followed by Stanford at 584.
Oregon's two-round total of 616 was three strokes back of 14th place Washington State.
Aron Price of Georgia Southern shot a 64 in the second round to lead the tournament at 9-under 133. Ross McGowan of Tennessee was next at 6-under 136.
The final round will be played Tuesday morning.
