
Men's Tennis Falls at Santa Clara, 5-2

SANTA CLARA, Calif. ? The University of Oregon men's tennis team suffered its fifth loss in a row, losing to Santa Clara, 5-2, Sunday. Still recovering from being ill, No. 11-ranked Sven Swinnen managed to chip in a doubles win, but was unable to play singles as the Ducks lost four of six matches.
Swinnen and freshman Chris Liao provided Oregon with its only doubles win, defeating SCU's Chris Iwamura and Blane Shields, 8-3.
In singles, junior Thomas Bieri rebounded after yesterday's loss with a two-set victory over Jan Macek. Bieri is now 8-8 overall on the year.
Sophomore Vlad Pino also came back after a defeat to Pacific, with a three-set victory over the Broncos' Bobby Rasmussen, 6-3, 6-7, 7-5. Pino is now third on the team with 10 overall wins.
The Ducks take the week off before hosting Portland, March 23 (Wed.), at 1:30 p.m. The dual against Portland will be the final non-conference match before beginning the Pac-10 slate.
