Lacrosse Closes Out Regular Season With a Victory

ATHENS, Ohio ? The University of Oregon women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a 9-7 victory over Ohio Saturday. Despite being outshot 30-18, the Ducks (5-10, 1-4 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) managed to hold the Bobcats to only two goals in the first half and held on for a non-conference victory.
The Ducks' offense provided a balanced attack with five players notching goals, led by midfielder Jen May who paced the way with three goals. May leads the team with 38 goals on the season. Jana Bradley and Lindsay Killian both netted two goals apiece. Cara Mead and Lindsey Pittard also scored goals.
"It was a well-fought game between two solid teams," Oregon head coach Jen Larsen said. "We made our fair share of mistakes but really worked hard for the victory. It was a 60-minute effort."
Goalkeeper Louisa Dorsch came away with her best performance of the season with a career-best 17 saves, marking the first time the Hagerstown, Md. native had posted 10-plus saves. Dorsch played all 60 minutes for the third time this year.
"Louisa gave a brilliant performance," Larsen said. "She has really worked hard and has improved a great deal this season."
May also led the Ducks in caused turnovers with four. Erin Gaebe chipped in two assists.
Oregon will now compete at the MPSF Championship tournament, Thu.-Sat., May 5-7, on the campus of Saint Mary's in Moraga, Calif.
