Logsdon Joins UO All-Time List in 5K

STANFORD, Calif. ? In the penultimate weekend of the track and field regular season, the University of Oregon men's distance corps competed Sunday night in the Cardinal Invite at Stanford University.
Redshirt senior and All-American Eric Logsdon joined the UO all-time list in the 5,000 with an almost eight-second personal best (ninth, 13:40.21). The Canby, Ore., native entered the meet with a previous best of 13:48.12 from the 2004 Oregon Invitational, and passed former Ducks Matt Centrowitz (eighth, 13:42.7), Steve Fein (ninth, 13:43.40) and Dave Taylor (10th, 13:43.82) on the school's all-time rankings.
Logsdon also became the fastest Duck 5K runner in more than 20 years, with last additions to the Duck top-10 list from 1982 ? Bill McChesney Jr. (school record, 13:14.80) and Jim Hill (sixth, 13:30.52).

Nike's Abdi Abdirahman won Sunday's race in 13:28.57, ahead of Nike's Jonathan Riley (second, 13:30.05), Wisconsin's Matt Tegenkamp (third, 13:31.98), Wisconsin's unattached freshman Matt Withrow (fourth, 13:35.32), and Nike's Bolota Asmerom (fifth, 13:37.14).
Other collegians ahead of Logsdon in the 5K included Wisconsin's Chris Solinsky (sixth, 13:38.92), Colorado's Brent Vaughn (seventh, 13:39.69) and William & Mary's Ed Moran (eighth, 13:39.70).
In a separate section of the 5,000, freshman Scott Wall made his collegiate debut at the 12 1/2-lap distance and ranked 23rd (14:30.18).
In the men's steeplechase, redshirt senior and All-American Brett Holts ran a .10-second season best (10th, 8:47.12), and 2004 U.S. junior champion and sophomore Kyle Alcorn (12th, 8:56.61) also dipped below 9:00 for the second straight week.
In other men's distance races, freshman and Eugene native Rob Gillespie took another second off his personal best in the 800 (fifth, 1:53.21), and was trailed by unattached Duck and freshman redshirt J.K. Withers (sixth, 1:53.39). In the 1,500, unattached Duck and feshman redshirt Chris Winter (10th, 3:56.90) was within four seconds of his season best, and was followed by senior Nick Dalton (11th, 4:00.47).

Next week, the Duck track and field teams return home to Hayward Field for their regular season finale, the Oregon Twilight, Sat., May 7 at Hayward Field. The first field event is tentatively scheduled for 3:30 pm, running events begin at 4:35 pm, and the meet ends at approximately 8:15 pm.
The Duck heptathletes and decathletes will also compete next Sat.-Sun., May 7-8 at Drake Stadium at UCLA, while the rest of the UO squads head to UCLA the following weekend for the Pac-10 Championships, Sat.-Sun., May 14-15.
