In his first game as a placekicker, junior Paul Martinez tied the school record for field goals made (5) and attempted (6), tying Tommy Thompson (vs. Arizona St., 10-3-92) and Kirk Dennis (vs. Washington St., 9-17-88) for successful kicks and also tying Thompson for attempts (vs. Arizona State, 10-3-92). Martinez scored the first six points of the 2005 season by kicking his first two career field goals ? a 22-yarder in Oregon's second drive of the game and a 39-yarder in the third drive. Later in the game, Martinez kicked a career-best 51-yarder before missing a 32-yarder to end the half. He was 2-for-2 in the second half.
Demetrius Williams had a 100-yard receiving day in the Ducks' season-opener for the third consecutive season, finishing the game with nine catches for 133 yards and one touchdown. It is Williams' eighth career 100-yard receiving game, which ties him for the school record with Keenan Howry (1999-2002) and Tony Hartley (1998-99).
Terrence Whitehead moved to ninth all-time on the all-purpose running career list, surpassing Jim Shanley (1955-57; 3,188). With 31 rushing yards today, Whitehead now has 3,197 career all-purpose running yards.
Sophomore wide receiver Cameron Colvin tied a career high in receptions (4) and set a new career-high in receiving yards (55) surpassing his previous best of 4 catches for 45 yards at California last season.
Quarterback Dennis Dixon scored his first career touchdown ? a one-yard rush in the third quarter that gave the Ducks the lead. Dixon score came after senior quarterback Kellen Clemens set up the score with a career-long 43-yard rush.
With a career-best 12 rushes for 72 yards, Kellen Clemens was the Ducks' leading rusher. Clemens also passed for 348 yards to move to fourth all-time on the UO career list for total offense (5,876), surpassing Dan Fouts (1970-72; 5,871).
Junior receiver James Finely caught 10 passes for 95 yards to tie the record for most catches in a Duck season-opener (Tony Hargain vs. San Diego St., 1990).
Oregon has won 19 of its last 22 season openers...The Ducks are 9-2 in season-openers under Head Coach Mike Bellotti...Oregon is now 2-0 all-time vs. Houston.
