Ducks Clip Cougars, Win 5-2

PULLMAN, Wash. ? The Ducks won their second straight match in the state of Washington as they dropped the Cougars of Washington State, 5-2, Saturday in Pullman.
“I'm extremely happy with how we played today,” head coach Nils Schyllander said. “We did a great job of overcoming the adversity of being without one of our veteran leaders in Anna Leksinska.”
The Ducks got the match off to a great start as they won the doubles point, sweeping the three matches. The No. 49 team of Dominika Dieskova and Ana Cecilia Olivos defeated Maria Ring and Amy Toth, 8-4. Claudia Hirt and Monica Hoz de Vila defeated Ekaterina Burduli and Aleksandra Cekic, 8-5. Anna Powaska and Carmen Seremeta defeated Aleksandra Stefanova and Marjolein van de Wen, 8-4.
In singles play the Ducks won four of the six matches. Dominika Dieskova currently ranked No. 26 nationally defeated No. 59 Burduli, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 1-0 (10-4). At number two singles the Ducks lost their first match of the day when Toth dropped Anna Powaska, 6-1, 6-2.
Seremeta defeated No. 81 van de Wen in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Her fellow Duck freshman Olivos thumped Cekic in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Claudia Hirt wrapped up the Ducks wins for the day as she defeated Ring, 6-3, 6-1.
“Claudia did a great job today, that is the best I have seen her play yet,” Schyllander said.
