Huskies Bite Ducks
02/24/06 | Men's Tennis
“This was a tough match, we were in it at almost every position and we just got beat,” head coach Kevin Kowalik said. “This match was good for us, we played loose, we played well.”
The Ducks were in the doubles point winning at number three, 8-3 as Mike Myrhed and Gustavo Loza defeated Mike Ricks and Jean-Noel Insausti. At number two Thomas Bieri and Fernando Freitas lost a heartbreaker to Andy Kuharszky and Klaus Jank, 8-6. Markus Schiller and Arron Spencer lost to Alex Slovic and Daniel Chu, 8-5.
“The doubles point was very close and winning it helped to establish some momentum for them,” Kowalik said. “We were right in it and if we had won that point who knows what it might have done for our confidence.”
The Huskies lost one match in singles when Pierre Metenier, retired in his match against Thomas Bieri. Metenier won the first set 7-6 (7-4) and tied the second set at 1, but was unable to continue.
The Ducks were in most all of the matches, none was more an example of that then Mike Myrhed falling 3-6 in the first set, battling through the second and winning 7-6 (8-6). In the super tiebreaker Myrhed fell 10-7.
