Ducks Struggle Against Cougars

PROVO, Utah (March 18, 2006) — The No. 37th ranked University of Oregon fell to No. 22 ranked BYU 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts. The Ducks (12-4) were unable to capitalize on the momentum after yesterday’s impressive victory against the Utah Utes.
“BYU played really well today. I tip my hat to them. They’re a great team, very strong and solid,” said Coach Schyllander after the loss. We lost a couple of close ones but over all BYU played a good match”
The Ducks struggled from the beginning as they dropped the doubles point. Anna Leksinska and Claudia Hirt notched the only win in a, 9-7, victory. Dominika Dieskova and Cecilia Olivos dropped their match to Sofia Holden and Dolly Chang, 8-0. BYU’s Olga Boulytcheva and Lauren Jones then defeated Anna Powaska and Carmen Seremeta in an, 8-6 win.
Carmen Seremeta carried the Ducks to their only point of the afternoon by defeating Sofia Holden in two straight sets 6-2, 7-6.
“Carmen played great for us today. She came out ready, played solid and won in straight sets.” Coach Schyllander said of her performance.
The big match of the day however was when No. 43 Dieskova lost a close one to No. 17 Olga Boulytcheva. The first set was taken easily by Boulytcheva 6-2, but Dieskova battled back in the second set winning 6-7. The third set very close as well, ending, 7-6, in favor of Boulytcheva.
“Dominika played amazing against a top ranked national competitor” Schyllander said. “She was right there, all the matches were close it was just too bad we couldn’t come away with more of them.”
The Ducks now have three straight home matches starting next Saturday vs. Washington at 11:00 am.
